The Gift of a $500 Box of Chocolate!

"But the greatest of these is love" 1 Corinthians 13:13
A few years ago a group of our friends were discussing some of their most endearing acts of love that they had done for their spouses. There were stories of an engagement ring frozen in the ice cube of the aspiring bride's drink, cards hidden in brief cases, flowers delivered to work, and surprise house cleanings.

After numerous stories were shared, one friend announced, "Once, I bought my wife a $500 box of chocolates!" As the group sat in disbelief, he continued on with his story...

Our First Graders are Published Authors!

To celebrate National Lutheran Schools Week, the Michigan District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod put out an appeal for devotional writers from Michigan Lutheran schools across the state so that they could post these spiritual inspirations on their blog for many to read.  Mrs. Kurien's first grade class eagerly answered this challenge and collectively wrote a devotional to submit. Last Tuesday, they became published authors as the MI District shared their writing on the MI District website.

The Benefits of Sending Your Child to St. Matthew

"The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many."
Matthew 20:28
What a fantastic week of fun and memorable moments God gave us as we celebrated National Lutheran Schools Week!
As we have been celebrating the gift of our Christian school, I was reminded of a story shared by one of our alumni as she participated in her high school AP English class years after graduating from St. Matthew. This story is one example of many reasons that support your decision of "Why would you send your child to a Christian school?"

"The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many."
Matthew 20:28

With everything currently transpiring in our country, if there ever was a time for Christian education, it's now... and at St. Matthew Lutheran School, we believe that Christ belongs in school!

Shovel Out Hunger!

"Truly I tell you, whatever you do for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of Mine, you did for Me."  Matthew 25:40    For the past four years, St. Matthew Lutheran School has hosted a family servant event, where those in attendance had the responsibility to make over 400 bagged lunches for the NOAH Project, a homeless shelter located in Detroit.

Happy New Year! How is your 20/20 vision?

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."  Jeremiah 29:11      If you have ever needed corrective lenses, you know the blessing of clear sight. My vision started to deteriorate when I was in the third grade, and by the time my nearsightedness plateaued, my prescription was a -8 in one eye and a -7 in the other. My glasses were so incredibly thick that you could barely see my eyes. Contact lenses were a welcomed blessing when I turned sixteen.

It's Time To Make The Donuts!

Donuts With Pastors This Saturday! When I was a kid, one of my favorite childhood memories was visiting the Franklin Cider Mill. Not only could you watch the apple press produce the delicious cider, but their hot donuts were also absolutely amazing! Usually, the grease soaking through the bag was an accurate indicator regarding the flavor, as well as the warmth and freshness of the donuts. However, if by chance you could not finish the entire dozen in one day (which rarely happened!) and one of those donuts would sit out for a day or two...

Tenth Annual St. Matthew Turkey Trot is... Friday, Nov. 13th!

"Whatever you do for the least of these, you do unto Me."  Matthew 25:40
How often do you list shoes when you count your blessings? If I asked you to count how many pairs of shoes you own, how many could you count? For many of us, shoes are a common blessing that we tend to forget about. However, for those experiencing substantial financial need, new shoes are a luxury.
